Thaloda 100mg Capsule (Thalidomide)

Thaloda 100mg Capsule contains thalidomide, an immunomodulatory medicine with anticancer, anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic effects. It is used in selected multiple-myeloma regimens and for erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL). Thalidomide capsule is a powerful human teratogen capable of causing severe birth defects after fetal exposure, so strict pregnancy-prevention and controlled-dispensing requirements are central to safe use. Other major toxicities include peripheral neuropathy, venous thromboembolism, sedation, constipation and bradycardia. However, the 100 mg capsule is a strength, not a universal total dose.

The uses of thalidomide 100mg capsule include:

• Multiple Myeloma – to be used in some selected therapy schedules.
  
• Moderate to severe skin ENL – which is an associated complication of leprosy.
• Recurrent ENL – can be useful in suppressing recurrent attacks.

​The Thaloda 100mg Capsule has traditionally been prescribed along with dexamethasone and other myeloma therapies in multiple myeloma. However, since there are new developments in treatment, it may have different usage nowadays. It is not generally prescribed in leprosy that does not have ENL complication.

Thalidomide 100mg blocks the activity of cereblon, which is a protein responsible for the degradation of other proteins. The action affects the survival and proliferation of myeloma cells. The medicine inhibits inflammatory responses and prevents the formation of blood vessels, which help tumor cells to survive.

• Myeloma studies: Clinical trials revealed that the effectiveness of treatment involving Thaloda 100mg combined with dexamethasone and/or other drugs is higher than the effectiveness of certain conventional treatments.
  
• ENL experience: Thalidomide 100mg capsule helps to eliminate inflammation and symptoms of ENL fast. However, it's uses is highly regulated since it may lead to malformation of a fetus.
  

Side effects can be caused by thalidomide capsule, and there are some that might need medical intervention. This depends on the dosage of the drug, the duration of use, and the person using it.

Do not double the next dose after a missed capsule. Follow the specific treatment instructions and contact the specialist if multiple doses are missed.

• Tests for pregnancy and strict use of contraceptives should be observed due to the possibility of teratogenicity of the drug.
  
• Pain, numbness, tingling sensations, burning sensations, and/or weakness in the hands or feet indicate possible nerve damage.
  
• Blood tests are essential for examining changes in red blood cell, white blood cell, and platelet counts.
  
• Symptoms like swelling or pain in legs, chest pain, or sudden difficulty breathing are indicative of a possible blood clot.
  
• The heart rate might be monitored in case of symptoms such as dizziness, fainting, or an abnormally low heart rate.
  
• These examinations will help to assess if the therapy is effective against the disease.
